Production Update #2

Production is currently on track and is progressing smoothly. After mapping and scouting out locations, filming took place with friends as the actors as they were available and agreed to help me with my project being an individual effort as my own "group". Filming was smooth with the previous vision laid out in pre-production being used to good effect, with a few minor changes to account for staying under the two minute limit but ensuring essential context and elements onscreen were recorded. The biggest challenge was to determine whether the footage shot was adequate enough, and whether deciding to reshoot could lead to some frustrations of my friends. This was something I wanted to avoid as I wanted to respect their time and effort while working together with them to film the footage I needed. Gaining access to the mailroom in the office was easy enough, as asking for permission allowed myself and friends to use the space to record the footage I need for my creative vision. A challenge was definitely keeping the moving figures in appropriate frame, while not stepping or walking too hard where my own footsteps could be picked up by the audio and not be masked by the footsteps of the person that was walking on screen.

Currently, I would assess I am 90% done with filming, as I plan to reshoot one scene tomorrow to obtain a take with cleaner audio, as when I was adjusting myself to maintain the necessary frame, some squeaks from my shoes of my movement were arguably too noticeable and could be eliminated by using another take. I did not know this until I went back to my computer to upload and process the footage with earbuds, hence with this decision now. In post-production, the biggest challenge is to be implementing the required material for an opening sequence such as credits, names of the actors in the film, along with smooth and coherent transitions that can provide context and help shape a narrative. Overall, the current timing of the footage turns out to be just under two minutes, giving some room to work with and add in screens for credits, introductions, etc. It will be interesting to experiment with the editing and the time until this project has to be submitted should provide for adequate schedule for editing.
